The roof of a multi-storey car park at twilight, parked cars in silhouette under a fading sky

Take a ticket at the barrier.

It is how every car park starts, so it is how ours does. Choose a night and press: the machine prints your film, your row and the time to be up the ramp.

How a night runs

19:30, the ramp opens

Walk or cycle up from Calder Street. No cars this time: the levels are for people.

The concrete facade of a multi-storey car park

Level 4, the kiosk

Hot food, cold beer and the deckchairs, stacked where the pay machine used to be.

Inside a multi-storey car park: columns and painted bay numbers

20:30, the gates to 7

Find your row. Each bay is painted with a letter and holds four chairs.

The screen and empty lot of a drive-in cinema

20:58, the leader runs

Ten, nine, eight: the old countdown before the first film, on the big screen.

21:00, the short

Every night opens with a short film while the sky is still blue behind the screen.

Midnight, the interval

Ten minutes to refill, walk the edge and look at the city from seven floors up.

18, 19 and 20 June 2027

What if it rains?

We move one level down to 6, which has a roof and the same view of the screen. The film still runs; ponchos are free.

Is there a lift?

Yes. The stair-tower lift runs to level 7 all night, and two bays at the front are kept for wheelchairs.

Can I come for one film?

Yes, the ticket covers the night, so come and go. The gates close to new arrivals at midnight.

Can I bring food?

Bring what you like except glass. The kiosk on level 4 is open until the last film starts.

How do I get home after one?

Night buses 4 and 11 stop on Calder Street every 20 minutes until four. Bikes park on level 2.
